We continued up the Pacific Coast Highway to Monterey. If you take this drive, try and do it earlier in the day than we did. Heading North, the afternoon sun is directly in your eyes most of the way. We passed by San Simeon, site of Hearst Castle which we'd seen before, and went through the Big Sur area and into Monterey. Just as we passed Big Sur, the forest fire fighters were scrambling to get to a blaze that had broken out on a ridge line above. Most of the coast line here is mountainous, with cliffs meeting the sea. This was shot looking back to the South, and is typical of much of the coast.
