Lunching with Shue Fong and Marion Dilley

Thursday  turned out to be a great day, beginning with a visit from some friends from the early 70's in Taiwan, Shue Fong and Marion Dilley up from Harker Heights, TX. Here we're catching up on what's been happening  after stuffing ourselves with some good Japanese food at Osaka in Plano.

June 29th brought the first public rides on Dart light rail and the Wild Flower festival to Richardson. Held at Galatyn park this year, the dancing fountain was the hit of the festival with the kids. A chance to get wet in the Texas summer heat was just what the doctor ordered!

We also rode the new Dart rail, and it's really nice folks!

The Aubrey "Cattle-Lac" sits just across the road from the Circle Y Ranch.

On the way home from our rainy Memorial day picnic, I couldn't resist stopping on the road across from the Circle Y ranch in Aubrey to take a picture of the "Cattle-Lac". I've been passing by this car for years and never got a picture of it before.

Only in Texas?

All you folks that said us Broad Street kids from Dyer would wind up in prison some day were right!

Earl Ray and Sherry Pitt were visiting his sister Jane Harrison and Bill Memorial day weekend. Jane invited us to meet them for dinner at "The Prison" restaurant in McKinney. Had a great time and some good chow.

Earl is in Texas to visit some old friends from his cowboying days.

Tyler Dobb street home's Azalea garden

FINALLY - we got a few days without rain! Angie and I emptied our pockets, pooled our change, bought some gas, and headed for East Texas!

After a stop by the new Lake Tawakoni State Park, we dropped in on Tyler to see how the Azaleas were coming along. Looks like we hit the peak of the season! The folks along Dobbs street invite you to enjoy their gardens, front and rear, and we took advantage of it. Here Angie looks over the azaleas in the front of a home on Dobbs street.

When we got back to the Los Angeles area after our Christmas cruise, Angie insisted that we visit one of her favorite spots, "The Huntington". After seeing it, I had to agree with her choice. The botanical gardens are fantastic and huge. We only had time for a quick walk through of one of the Art Galleries, the British, where I saw the original "Blue Boy", "Pinkie", and Gilbert Stuart's 1797 portrait of  George Washington, the one used on the one dollar bill. Needless to say, I'll be going back to The Huntington.
